Nearly 70% of the fabric made worldwide is now synthetic, most of it polyester, which sheds microplastics and carries dyeing and manufacturing residues against your skin all day. Even natural fibers like organic cotton or linen can be finished with formaldehyde for wrinkle resistance, PFAS for stain repellency, or antimicrobial treatments, so a natural label does not guarantee a clean garment. When you sweat, the chemicals can absorb more readily.
